WHO WE ARE
Founded in 2026, the Children's Theatre Alliance is the sector-led national platform of Australia's professional theatre companies making work for children.
We cover theatre for children aged 0 to 14, with a focused lens on children aged 0 to 8. These are the early and primary years where the case for theatre is strongest, and where the gap between what children need and what they can access is greatest.
OUR PURPOSE
The Alliance is united by a shared commitment to children's theatre: to think together, collaborate, build shared capacity, and act where acting together carries more weight than acting alone.
OUR VISION
Every Australian child growing up with great theatre as part of their lives.
Every Australian child has the right to participate in cultural life, and theatre is part of how that right is realised. The Alliance works toward an Australia where every child can access theatre that supports their learning, their emotional and social wellbeing, and their sense of who they are.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
Theatre is part of how children understand themselves, connect with others and participate in the life around them. Live theatre builds emotional literacy, empathy and social connection in ways that no other experience can.
We believe children's theatre should be recognised as both cultural and social infrastructure for the children of Australia, and that the sector serving them deserves the investment and architecture to do that work at the scale.
Australia signed the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which sets out every child's right to participate in cultural life under Article 31. We are not delivering on that commitment for most Australian children. The Alliance exists to help change that.
